Responsibilities
The Utility Billing Department is responsible for producing and processing utility bills for over 3,500 accounts each month. Responsibilities include establishing new service, disconnecting and transferring utility accounts, and answering customer inquiries. We ensure accurate and timely reading of meters, management of billing accounts, and maintain financial records for the City of Fairbury utilities.
Effective January 1, 2022 all meters will be read the third full week of each month and invoiced and mailed prior to the end of the month. Payment will be due on the 21st of each month for the preceding month and are delinquent one day after the due date. Utilities are discontinued on the eighth day (excluding weekends and holidays) after a courtesy notice is sent (§ 50.03).
Per Ordinance No. 3107 that was passed by the Fairbury City Council on April 19, 2022, a 5% late fee will now be assessed on all delinquent utility payments. This late fee will begin with the June 2022 bill.
