Upgrades for Crystal Springs

CRYSTAL SPRINGS UPGRADES PLANNED

Crystal Springs Park Improvement Project

Crystal Springs has been serving as a Fairbury recreational haven for generations.  To continually improve the park, the City regularly takes on a variety of improvement projects to enhance the experience of our park visitors. Over the next few years, multiple upgrades are planned to occur at Crystal Springs including but not limited to tree removal and replacement, reconstructing sections of road, upgrading electrical service, and more. During these projects, access to the park may be limited or restricted. Check the City website to learn when park closures are anticipated to occur.

Ash Tree Removal & Replacement

Beginning in early 2019, the City will begin replacing over 180 ash trees in Crystal Springs. Unfortunately, due to the Emerald Ash Borer, all ash trees will be compromised and in order to combat the damage, the State has recommended all ash trees be replaced.

The Emerald Ash Borer is an exotic beetle that feed on the inner bark of ash trees, disrupting the tree's ability to transport water and nutrients. Emerald ash borer probably arrived in the United States on solid wood packing material carried in cargo ships or airplanes originating in its native Asia. As of October 2018, the Emerald Ash Borer has been found in 35 states, including Nebraska. For more information about the Emerald Ash Borer, visit: http://www.emeraldashborer.info/

If you would like to donate funds to replace a tree, please send your check payable to ‘City of Fairbury’ and mail to the Fairbury City Clerk, P.O. Box 554, Fairbury, NE 68352, with ‘TREE PROJECT written in the memo line.

Road Improvement

Also, in early 2019, reconstructing the entrance to Crystal Springs is scheduled. This project will alter the entrance of Crystal Springs transforming the road from two separate lanes into one wider thoroughfare. This change will better accommodate large recreational vehicles accessing the park.
