January 9, 2007

Council Planning & Goal Setting

 

 

The Mayor and Council of the City of Fairbury met for a special planning and goal setting session in the lower level of Union Bank & Trust, 1313 K Street, Fairbury, Nebraska, on the 9th day of January, 2007, at 6:00 p.m.  Mayor E.M. Mueller called the meeting to order.

 

Notice of meeting was given in advance thereof by publication in the Fairbury Journal News, Fairbury, Nebraska, the designated method of giving notice, as shown by affidavit of publication.  The Open Meetings Act is posted in the Council Chambers as required by law.

 

Roll call found the following Council Members present:  Brown, Phillips, Byrd, Trimm, Nelson, Bender, Fry, and Polson.  Corinne Pedersen of the Nebraska Municipal Power Pool (NMPP) was present to facilitate the goal setting session.

 

Reverend Charles Schmidt addressed the Council, provided information on completed Fairbury Trails, presented information on possible future trails projects, and requested permission to form a committee to pursue development of future trails projects.  Mayor Mueller stated Schmidt’s request would be placed on the January 16, 2007 Council agenda for consideration.

 

Pedersen worked with the Mayor and Council to develop a goals and a strategic plan for the City of Fairbury.  The Mayor and Council discussed the community in light of changes and defining events as well as the emerging environment and their desired future for Fairbury.

 

Bender left the meeting at 8:03 p.m.

 

Pedersen informed the Mayor and Council that based on their discussion, a strategic plan for the City of Fairbury will be prepared.  Pedersen stated she will work with City Administrator Jim Ferneau and Mayor Mueller and return to work on the plan again at a later date.

 

Brown made a motion to adjourn the meeting.  Motion seconded by Byrd.  On roll call, Brown, Phillips, Byrd, Trimm, Nelson, Fry, and Polson voted “yes.”  Bender absent.  Motion carried.

Meeting adjourned at 8:10 p.m.
