FAIRBURY  PUBLIC WORKS COMMITTEE

MINUTES

May 17th, 2011

7:00 p.m.

 

 

Chairperson Polson made the statement regarding the Open Meetings Act as required by statute.

 

1.     Chairperson Tim Polson called the meeting to order at 7:01 p.m. and asked for roll call. Other members present were: Joshua Vossler and Brad Kuzelka.

 

2.     Next, was the motion to convene.  Member Kuzelka made the motion to convene.  Member Vossler seconded the motion.  All members voted “Ai” - (Polson, Vossler and Kuzelka) / 0 - "nay". The motion passed.

 

3.     Next, was the motion to approve the minutes of May 3rd, 2011.  Member Kuzelka made the motion to approve the minutes.  Member Vossler seconded the motion.  All members voted “Ai” -  (Kuzelka, Vossler and Polson) / 0 - "nay". The motion passed.

 

4.      Next, was Discussion and recommendation regarding the conversion of a handicapped parking stall to a “No Parking Loading Zone” on the southeast corner of 4th and E Streets.

       

Public Works Superintendant Hynek was present and explained that the stall is located in front of Livingston’s property and he plans on using the stall for loading.  Hynek notes that the building use has changed and the handicapped stall was more appropriate when it was a restaurant, now a loading zone sign will work better.  There are also handicap stalls located west across the street and north across the street.  Member Kuzelka made the motion to recommend the city council approve the conversion of the handicapped parking stall to a “No Parking Loading Zone” on the southeast corner of 4th and E Streets.  Member Vossler seconded the motion.  By roll call, the vote 3 - "yes" (Vossler, Kuzelka and Polson) / 0 - "no". The motion passed. 

5.      Next, was Discussion and recommendation regarding a request from the Fairbury City Museum to allow for a watermelon feed in the City Park on July 4th, 2011. 

 

Mick Hynek explained that TLC Creations and the museum board are requesting to have a watermelon feed at the entrance to the softball complex on the 4th of July right before the fireworks display.  The museum board will buy the watermelon and there will be a goodwill donation.  Member Kuzelka questioned if this would conflict with any other planned activities.  Hynek stated that it would not.  Member Vossler made the motion to recommend the City Council approve the request from the Fairbury City Museum to allow for a watermelon feed in the City Park on July 4th, 2011.  Member Kuzelka seconded the motion. By roll call, the vote 3 - "yes" (Vossler, Kuzelka and Polson) / 0 - "no". The motion passed.   

6.      Next, was Discussion and recommendation regarding the consideration of the sale of a 1985 Ford F600 Dump Truck by the Street Department.

 

Public Works Superintendant Mick Hynek explained that the street departments Ford F600 Dump truck has been having some transmission troubles among other things and is more of a light duty truck and he would like to sell it.  He was questioned if there is any other department in the city that might need it and Hynek stated that he would check but he is not aware of anything.  Hynek believes he could get somewhere around 3,000 for the truck.  There was some discussion on how to sell the truck.  Hynek stated that he could check with the individual he bought his new truck from.  The Committee suggested an auction.  Hynek mentioned an auction during the 4th of July weekend during the flea market.  Member Vossler mentioned selling the truck on Craig’s list.  Hynek stated that he would like to get $4,000 - $5,000 out of it.  Member Vossler made the motion for the Street Department try to sell the Ford F600 Dump Truck on Craig’s List for $4,000 - $5,000 and if that does not work to consider auctioning it off.  Member Polson seconded the motion. By roll call, the vote 3 - "yes" (Vossler, Kuzelka and Polson) / 0 - "no". The motion passed.   

7.      Next, was Discussion and recommendation regarding the revisions to Ordinance 2925 regarding fees for sanitation services. 

 

Hynek explained that this price change is on the commercial dumpsters.  He stated that when the prices went up previously some were missed and were still being charged $7.80 instead of $8.00 so the change is in a effort to make all dumpster pricing consistent.  Member Kuzelka made the motion to recommend the City Council approve revisions to Ordinance 2925 regarding fees for sanitation services.  Member Vossler seconded the motion. By roll call, the vote 3 - "yes" (Vossler, Kuzelka and Polson) / 0 - "no". The motion passed.   

7.       With no further discussion and no comments from the public on non-agenda items, member Kuzelka made the motion to adjourn the meeting. Member Vossler seconded the motion. All members voted “Ai” -  (Vossler, Kuzelka and Polson) / 0 - "nay". The motion passed.  Member Polson declared the meeting adjourned at 7:15 pm.
